School Information Sessions for Municipal Elementary and Junior High Schools

For new first-year students entering municipal elementary and junior high schools in April 2027 and their parents/guardians

Municipal elementary and junior high schools in Shinjuku City hold school information sessions twice a year. This page provides information on the dates and times of the first school information sessions and the school choice system for junior high schools.
Information on school admission for parents/guardians of new first-year students entering municipal elementary schools in the 2027 school year will be sent in August. Information on junior high schools is set to be provided to households with sixth-grade elementary school students in September. The websites of the various schools can be viewed here.

School Choice System for Junior High Schools

While they follow the school district system in principle, municipal junior high schools also offer a school choice system that allows students to select a school outside their school district at the time of initial enrollment. If you want your child to attend a municipal junior high school outside your school district, please submit a school selection form. (If you want your child to attend a school within your school district, you do not need to do anything.)

Number of students that can be accepted Each junior high school has an upper limit set according to its facility conditions.
How to select a school Information on the school selection form will be provided to sixth-grade elementary school students around September. Please submit your completed school selection form to the Academic Affairs Section, School Management Division, online or via another method by Friday, October 16, 2026.

Notes:
1. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of students that a school can accept, a lottery will be used to select students from among those applying from outside their school district. Those not selected will be assigned to the school in their school district and put on the waiting list for the school they selected.
2. Please carefully discuss school selection with your family and consider the long period of school life ahead before submitting the school selection form.
3. The school district for each school can be viewed here.
4. If you wish to observe classes first, please contact the school you’re interested in to ask about the dates and times of open school days.
