The City’s Medical Relief System in Major Disasters Has Changed

As a rule, Shinjuku City will open emergency medical care stations on or near the grounds of eight hospitals in the city for roughly the first 72 hours after a disaster occurs. If you suffer an injury or suddenly fall ill and you or those around you cannot handle treatment yourselves, please go to the nearest city emergency medical care station.
The city’s disaster prevention radio system, website and social media will inform you which stations are open.

In principle, as long as Shinjuku City’s emergency medical care stations are open, local clinics will not provide regular medical services. Doctors from local clinics will instead serve on medical relief teams at city emergency medical care stations.

In addition, the medical care stations Shinjuku City previously set up at ten evacuation sites have been renamed “disaster health rooms.” Public health nurses and other staff will provide mental and physical health consultations there. When necessary, they will also refer people to medical institutions or other health professionals.

Please note that the medical supplies Shinjuku City has stockpiled are limited. A major disaster may disrupt distribution networks, and you may not be able to obtain your usual medicines and daily necessities. Be sure to stock up on essential items yourself in advance.
