Enrolling a child of foreign nationality in a Shinjuku municipal elementary school or junior high school requires an application.

Documents required | Residence card or special permanent resident certificate for both the child and his/her parent/guardian |
School Information Sessions and Open School Events
Municipal schools hold school information sessions. Please check the schedule for these on the Shinjuku City website and visit the school you would like to enroll your child in (please note that some elementary schools may require a phone reservation).
As the city promotes initiatives to develop more attractive education and open schools to the local community, municipal schools also offer open school events during class hours where you can observe classes and school activities.
If you wish to participate in school information sessions and open school events, please check the latest information on the relevant school’s website or the Shinjuku City website in advance.
Note: Multilingual support is not available at these school information sessions and open school events.
