National Census Coming This Fall
The national census will be conducted to collect information about the population of Japan as of October 1, 2025. Your cooperation with the census is required.
What Is the National Census?
This is the most fundamental statistical survey in Japan, and is conducted once every five years. The purpose of the census is to confirm the number of people living in Japan and to understand the actual conditions of their households.
Who Is Surveyed?
All people and households living in Japan as of October 1, 2025 will be surveyed.
This of course includes foreign residents living in the country.
How to Respond
You can respond via the internet or by mail.
Note: Participation in the census is required by law.
Use of the Results
The results of the census will be used as fundamental data for various administrative purposes.
