Subsidy for Households with Elementary or Junior High School Children to Cover School Lunch Costs

To reduce the financial burden on families raising children, the Shinjuku City Board of Education provides free school lunches at municipal elementary and junior high schools. For children attending private schools or similar institutions, the city offers a subsidy equivalent to the cost of municipal school lunches, paid in three installments per year.
This subsidy is the city’s unique initiative and is not subject to income restrictions.

To receive this subsidy for the first time, you may be required to apply.
The head of your household will receive a notification as of the reference dates below listed in the city’s Board of Education list. Please review the contents carefully and complete the required procedure by the stated deadline.
