Microchip registration of pet dogs and cats began on June 1, 2022.
Since June 1 this year, dogs and cats sold at pet shops and other locations must be microchipped, and the pet owner’s name, address and other information must be registered so that the owner can be traced if the animal becomes lost.
Registration of Pet Owners
When you start keeping a dog or cat that has been microchipped, please register your information in the Ministry of the Environment database.
Notes:
1. There is a handling fee for registration (¥300 online; ¥1,000 when mailing in an application sheet).
2. If you purchase a dog or cat from an acquaintance, or if you already own a pet, you must microchip your pet. If you have a microchip implanted, please register the owner information in the same manner.
3. If your pet is already microchipped and registered with a private entity, the owner information is not automatically registered in the Ministry of the Environment database. Please complete the designated procedures to transfer the information.
Changes in Dog Registration Procedures
If you have your pet dog(s) microchipped and register your information in the Ministry of the Environment database, the City Office will be notified, so there is no need to complete initial registration or change of address procedures at the City Office service counter.
Notes:
1. If your pet is not microchipped or if you have not registered your information in the Ministry of the Environment database, you must complete the designated procedures at the City Office service counter as usual.
2. The application procedures for obtaining an annual rabies vaccination completion certificate remain the same.
