High School and University (for privately financed international students)

The eligibility requirements for taking an entrance examination to a Japanese public or private high school are: 1. 15 years of age by April 1 of the school year of admission; 2. Having completed nine years of school education in a foreign country, or having graduated from a Japanese junior high school or expecting to graduate.
As a rule, for admission to a Japanese university, the applicant must be 18 years of age and have received 12 years of education from elementary school through high school. Although the requirement is the same for those of foreign nationality, the number of years in school may not be enough, depending on the country.
For details concerning entrance examinations, see the Japan Student Services Organization website.
