Ikebukuro Life Safety Learning Center Tour
On August 28, the Ikebukuro Life Safety Learning Center hosted a tour that offered participants a chance to learn how extinguish a fire and experience a simulated earthquake.
About twenty-five people participated in the tour, including international students and other members of the foreign resident community. The fire-extinguishing drills and earthquake simulation enhanced their awareness and knowledge of disaster preparedness. Listening to the lecturer and practicing disaster-preparedness skills left a deep impression. Participants expressed their appreciation with such comments as: “After experiencing an earthquake for the first time, I realized the importance of disaster preparedness,” and “Since my experience was so helpful, I want to recommend this place to my friends.”

Fire-Extinguishing Drills
Participants learned about fires and how to use a fire extinguisher, and then practiced putting out a fire with one.
Earthquake Simulation Experience
Participants learned about the mechanism of earthquakes and what to do when an earthquake strikes, and then experienced a simulated earthquake with a seismic intensity of 7.
Smoke Experience
Participants learned what to do when there is smoke in a fire, and then practiced walking through a smoky room to escape.
VR Experience
Participants experienced various simulated disasters via VR (virtual reality), including heavy rains, typhoons, fires and earthquakes.
