Preparing for a Major Metropolitan Earthquake—Shinjuku City Will Help You Prevent Your Furniture from Falling Over
The city will dispatch a specialist to your home to offer consultation and conduct a survey on appropriate braces and installment procedures. The installation of devices is free of charge.
Improper installation makes the measure less effective, so please take advantage of this support program.
Eligibility
Shinjuku City residents
Applicable Furniture
Bureaus, cupboards, shelves, refrigerators and TV sets
Note: This program is restricted to furniture in homes in which city-designated devices can be installed.
Fee
You must pay for the devices, which can be purchased from the specialist dispatched by the city or bought in advance.You must also pay the costs for any renovation required, such as to the ceiling or walls.
★The following persons may receive up to five devices free of charge (one-time offer):
1. Those registered in the list of people who require protection in a disaster*
2. Households that receive public financial assistance for everyday living
* To be included on the list of people who need evacuation assistance during a disaster, residents must register themselves. The list will be used to identify these people before a disaster strikes. The list is distributed to local fire stations and local police stations, local welfare officers, children’s committees, disaster prevention resident organizations and relevant divisions in the Shinjuku City Office. Please note that being on this list does not mean you will receive priority.

Application
Please submit your application form by mail, fax or in person to the Security Affairs Section of the Security Affairs Division. The application form is available at the Security Affairs Division and local Branch Offices, and you can also download it from the Shinjuku City website.
Notifications of the final decision on applications received by the 25th of the month will be mailed around the fifth of the following month. Since the visiting date is determined later, you will receive a telephone call from a designated company.
