Shinjuku City offers medicine bags for leftover, unknown and expired medicine
Shinjuku City works with the Shinjuku City Pharmaceutical Association to help you remember to take your medicine and safeguard your health, including preventing side effects. Together, they offer consultation services about the medicine you have at home and arranging the remaining medicine in an orderly manner.
One way Shinjuku does this is to provide medicine bags at designated pharmacies* in the city. Get a bag and take all your medicine along with your medicine handbook (Okusuri Techo) to a designated pharmacy. The pharmacy will help you sort the medicine you need and can still use from the medicine that’s expired, no longer needed, or cannot be taken along with other medicines you need to take. The medicine bags are free.
Eligibility: Members of Shinjuku City National Health Insurance about sixty-five years old and older, and members of the Medical Care System for the Older Senior Citizen.
Bag fee: Free (but please be aware that the number of bags is limited)
* Designated pharmacies: 143 locations in the city offer Shinjuku City medicine bags.
Note: For more information, please visit the Shinjuku City website or the Shinjuku City Pharmaceutical Association website (Japanese only).
