New National Health Insurance Card Mailout
New National Health Insurance cards for residents whose cards expire on September 30, 2017 will be sent by registered mail on September 6 to the head of the household.
Mail delivery personnel basically deliver registered mail in person to your door. They do this to confirm that postal items are not damaged or lost, and to ensure the items reach the addressee. If you are not at home at the time of delivery, an “attempted delivery” slip will be left in your mailbox. If you receive one of these slips, please call the phone number on it.
After receiving your card, please check your name, address and other information on it. If there are any errors, please bring your card to the Medical Insurance and Pension Division or your local Branch Office. Please also return your expired health insurance card to the Medical Insurance and Pension Division or your local Branch Office.
▼ Health insurance cards are cards for individual use. However, even if there are two or more members within the same household, and even if the head of the household is not a National Health Insurance member, health insurance cards are sent to the head of the household.
▼ As a rule, September 30, 2019 is the expiration date of the new health insurance cards. However, if you reach seventy-five years of age on or before September 30, 2019, the day before your birthday will be the expiration date. If you are a foreign resident whose visa will expire on or before September 29, 2019, your visa expiration date will also be your health insurance card’s expiration date. A health insurance card with a new expiration date will be mailed to residents who renew their visas. The expiration date may vary in other situations as well.
▼ If you are a foreign resident and your visa status is “designated activities,” you will receive a new health insurance card only if your designated documents can be confirmed. If you have not completed the required procedures, please call the National Health Insurance Eligibility Section of the Medical Insurance and Pension Division.

● To Residents Behind in Their Health Insurance Premium Payments
An eligibility certificate or a health insurance card with a shorter valid period (valid for twelve months) will be mailed to households that are behind in making their health insurance premium payments. Once you pay off your premiums completely, you can exchange your card for a health insurance card with a regular expiration date. If you have extraordinary circumstances that make payment difficult, please consult the office noted below.
