Enrollment in a Municipal Kindergarten

Kindergartens are available as educational facilities for preschool children from 3 through 5 years of age.
There are municipal and private kindergartens.
Municipal kindergartens have classes for children from 3 through 5 years of age.
Children registered with their parents in the city as residents are eligible for admission.
There are no fees for enrollment or nursery school attendance.
Each kindergarten accepts applications for admission.

Enrollment in a Private Kindergarten

Subsidies are available for nursery fees, etc. for registered residents of the city who are parents/guardians of children attending a private kindergarten (regardless of whether it is in or outside of Shinjuku City) and other such facilities. However, the amount and other details of the subsidies vary depending on the kindergarten your child attends and the amount of resident’s tax you pay.
